New Studio Challenge

If you are looking for my Grow Your Blog post, please go HERE.  I hope you have been enjoying the blog party as much as I am.  I am still working my way through and it will take me a while longer.

Another project I am working on is a challenge by Sharyl of Sharyl's Jewelry and Reflections.  Sharyl calls it the "pick up your beads, clean off your worktable, so you can design something beautiful" challenge!

So it is time to get to work on organizing and finding a place for everything.  I had a sunny day and was able to snap some "before" pictures.  It remains to be seen how many of those I will share.

Here is one picture of my torch area.  There is glass everywhere though it all has a place to be.  Somehow when I am working, I think I may need the exact colors to make more (which is sometimes true), but then I don't seem to get back to put them away when done.  Then the next batch piles on top and so on.....  This may be a good place to start.

My desk for making jewelry is really another story.  Some things do have a place but I really haven't figured out a way to store my own lampwork beads so that I can still see them.  I like to have them sorted by color and size on mandrels but that ends up taking a lot of the space on the desktop.

I am wondering if I can find some plastic cases to set the mandrels in that can be seen through so I can pull by color.  The mandrels are about 9 inches long.  Any ideas?

Luckily, I do have a "new-to-me" jeweler's bench for metal work.  I need a place devoted to taking pictures that doesn't have to be disassembled after each use.  And a packing and mailing section would be nice, and a place for the computer, and ....  Oh my!  Better get to work!

Off to clean and then create,
Carol

  1. Well you know what Albert Einstein said.......“If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?” LOL!! I would leave it cluttered, if I were you.

  2. Beautiful beads, Carol! That looks like a pretty complicated work area to me. And no yarn!! I wouldn't know where to start - hahaha :) I would really love to see how you work with the glass.

  3. Hi Carol, thank you for your lovely comment on my blog. I too am still working my way round all 600 and trying to work out how some people have done it so quickly. Your blog is great and I am delighted to follow you. I love lampwork beads but have not yet made any. The only glasswork I've done is cold with stained glass.

Re: your question yes I've heard of the Mornflake brand and I'd imagine it is similar to the Sainsbury's one in my pic which used to be called jumbo oats too. Your hubby has very good taste but what a pity you have to have it imported. Still sometimes only the right product will hit the spot.

Looking forward to coming back and reading more.
    best wishes

  4. Hello Carol, coming from GYB... I so love what you do, like I said I have always been interested in doing exactly what you are doing.. Not organizing, I can't do that to save myself and I'll think as we are driving what you might be able to use. I had a personal organizer come into my space to give me ideas and now my children come to me for help but I'm still not great at organizing my work area, I seem to love it cluttered as it looks as though I've been overly busy.

Are you West side of Virgina, I'm trying to get a location, wondering if you are on route to my back home would love to purchase from you. I thought if I visited, my hubby could see how interesting this is. We love glass also but it is already a finished product when we find it.... we are beachcombers and pick up smoothed pieces of seaglass and turn them into jewellery. I'd better go and let you get back at your work~ Cindy
