I Heart Macro & Winning from EB Works

Better late than never!  A picture for I Heart Macro at Studio Waterstone.

A few months ago I won a gift certificate from EB Bead and Metal Works for NOVICA.  Thanks Evie and Beth.  NOVICA is one of the leading fair trade artisan websites.  I finally made a selection from the many interesting items.  What did I buy?  This delightful bird in a cage with blue topaz necklace.  It came in an interesting package with a note from the artist.

I Heart Macro

These ladyslippers are in the woods behind my house.  I think they are an unusual wildflower and when I found these, I started trying to protect the area where they grow.  You see, my woods is in the middle of an old subdivision that backs up to a new subdivision.  A fair amount of kids walk and bike through the area. 

As is typical of children, they don't spend a lot of time looking down at wildflowers or worry about stepping or riding over them.  So since I enjoy seeing these reappear each year I try to set up some road blocks with rocks and tree limbs that will redirect traffic.  Just my own little effort at nature preservation.

So these little beauties are my close up view for today.  Hope you have had time to stop and appreciate the smaller things in your world.  And to see more you can visit Studio Waterstone.

I Heart Macros

Got the blues?  Blue hyacinth, that is! 

There are two of these beauties near my front door.  With all the warm weather, they bloomed early this year.  I was really afraid we would get a freeze or frost and ruin them.  But they made it.  Have you ever seen such vivid blues in flowers?

I Heart Macro Sunday

Joining up with Lori Plyler over at Studio Waterstone for I Heart Macro, here is my close-up shot for the week.

As I was taking some shots of all the flowers blooming this week, I came upon this shrub that was literally buzzing with activity (pun intended).  Bees were everywhere but catching them in the lens was a challenge. 

And finally this guy was probably the most persistent of all.

We are not sure what this flowering shrub is.  It looks like an azalea but blooms a couple of months earlier than all the other azaleas.  It has been here for probably 30 years or more and pre-dates me in the house.  I guess you don't have to know what it is to enjoy its early March lavendar blooms each year. 

So take some time to smell the roses (or azaleas) and take some close-up shots while you are out there.  And then share, please.

I Heart Macro Sunday & Scarf Tricks

Scarves are really in vogue right now and I have my fair share of them.  This hot pink and brown silk scarf is one of my favorites.  But even though it is really lightweight, it is rather long and is sometimes difficult to find ways to wear it.

So if you are like me and enjoy wearing scarves, you will probably enjoy this little You-Tube video.  At the end, you can click on a style that you like and the directions for it will play.  This attractive woman is very entertaining even if you never wear a scarf.

I 'Heart" Macro Sunday

Time for posting pics for Macro Sunday over at Studio Waterstone.  Since the next few days will be spent picking, baking and freezing cherries, I thought it appropriate to use my picture of them this week.  We have two big trees in the back yard.

They are so sweet and tasty.  We just walk out and stand under the trees eating them.  There is also a Black Heart cherry tree down in the front field on the property line.  Those are dark cherries that are even sweeter.  Yum!  We didn't know for a long time that the Black Heart was there until we finally got the fence row cleaned out.  

Whatever we don't get picked, which is a lot because the trees are so tall,  the birds move in and eat in one day.  It is really amazing to see.  And I wonder, how the heck do all the birds know to show up on the same day?

I Heart Macro with Studio Waterstone

Then I figured out that I had linked back to Lori's blog instead of mine so I entered another one.  You can see each little "hair" on the dandelion.  Isn't that amazing?
